Reactor Vessel Under-Head Shield
The Reactor Vessel Under-Head Shield is designed to reduce radiation exposure from the underside of the reactor vessel head while on the head stand. It is positioned before the head is placed on the stand and extends up into the cavity of the head. The shield consists of nine support frame sections which will support up to three layers of Lead Wool Blankets. The shield support structure includes an extending shield plate the top of the support frame that is retracted and latched until the head is on the stand. It is then moved outward into close proximity of the head. The extending shield has a series of bumper pads to protect the head. This reduces exposure during work evolutions close to the head such as O-ring maintenance.

Reactor Vessel Head Stand Shield Ring
The Reactor Vessel Head Stand Shield Ring offers simplified erection and is used outside the Reactor Head Flange. Featuring epoxy coated steel plate construction, it can be sized to suit specific reactor vessel head diameter. The standard unit is constructed of 4” plate, with other thicknesses available. The ring provides for the use of interchangeable components as well as providing access for robots and personnel through three shielded doors. Ventilation ports are also provided for engineering controls. A lockable latch at the access point door creates a locked high rad area. A base plate is provided to distribute the load, and lifting provisions are provided for the overhead crane.

Movable Shield Walls
Movable Shield Walls are custom designed shield systems typically constructed of 3″ thick lead encased in stainless steel or painted carbon steel. The track can be any length and can incorporate bends. The upper track can be supported from the floor or appropriate building structure.
The panels use heavy duty guided casters and they are able to be moved manually by one person. Panels can be latched open or closed. Large base plates distribute the floor load.

HEPA Filter Cask Shield
This cask shield is part of a special Steam Generator Vacuum System that RPS has manufactured. A steel container houses a compactable and disposable in-line HEPA filter element that collects highly radioactive debris from steam generator internals during maintenance operations.
This cask shield surrounds the filter assembly and greatly reduces the radiation levels in the surrounding area.
This is another example of how RPS specializes in the design and manufacture of shielding solutions for the nuclear industry.

Sample Sink Shield
This Sample Sink Shield is 1/2″ lead encased in stainless steel with a base plate to spread the floor load. It is a floor to ceiling shield with a heavy duty roller-on-track system for the sliding doors. Each shield wall consists of an upper set of rolling leaded doors that allow access to either the water or gas sample. The lower half of the shield is a series of leaded doors that allow access to the sample heat exchangers, pumps and valves. There are a series of flip-up panels at the top of the doors that show lights indicating which pumps are running. It features easy grasp latches for all hinged doors, optional panel lights if required, optional small Lexan covered openings aligned on indicator lights, and optional remote panels with indicator lights and switches on the personnel side of the shield.
